About 49er Sailboat Racing

The 49er sailboat is a double trapeze skiff. The fleet is considered to be one of the most competitive fleets in the world. Every team trains full time. Past champions of the 49er fleet have won multiple America’s Cups as well as other prestigious trophies. The 49er produces the best sailors in the world.

Where We Race

Since the 49er is an Olympic Class, teams and regattas happen all over the world. The largest concentration of high level regattas are in Europe. However, the annual World Championships move from continent to continent.

Sailing the 49er

The 49er is not a normal boat. It is challenging to just get the boat around the race course, not to mention winning!

These boats go 8-10 kt (9-12 mph) upwind and can exceed 20 kt (23 mph) downwind!

These boats require balance and agility to complete each tack, gybe and acceleration.
