Racing in the Oakcliff Triple Crown Series

In September, Scott and Charlie raced in the Oakcliff Triple Crown series, where up to $30,000 of campaign support prize money was up for grabs. The first of the two Triple Crown Regattas, Charlie sailed with 49erFX Olympian Maia Agerup. Charlie and Maia placed 4th of 8 boats, winning $1,333. In the second and final Triple Crown Scott was back. Charlie and Scott placed 2nd out of 9 boats, winning $6,666. This money will help us pay for coaching and travel for our winter training in Miami.

All Set Up in Miami for Winter Training!

In early October, Charlie transported the 49er to Miami, signifying the start of our Winter Training season!

Our first training block, we trained against the top US boat and the Dutch crew that won the last 2 World Championships. This was an amazing opportunity to learn from the the best sailors in the world. It was awesome listening to the world champion who had some different sailing philosophy than the American teams.

After a week and a half of rest at home, we went back in Miami for another 2 week training block. We worked on creating world class habits that will ensure that we are at peak performance every time we are on the water.

We saw a wide range of conditions in our second training block. The first week’s conditions were windy with Hurricane Nicole hitting Florida 50 miles north of our training location. The second week saw lighter winds and more boats on the water, with the US Sailing Team and the Canadian team arriving for a short training block. We were able to have practice races with 8 very competitive boats on the water!

What is Next?

Scott and Charlie will be in Miami through January. The next big event is the US Open Series. The series consists of 2 regattas. The first regatta is in Miami, FL. The second is in Clearwater, FL. These regattas will serve as qualifiers for the next World Championships in The Netherlands and the Pan-American Games. Unlike the last worlds in Canada only a certain number of boats from each country can go. The number of US slots for this worlds has yet to be announced. Only one boat from the US can go to the Pan-American Games.

In late February, we are planning for our first European event in Palma, Spain.

Fundraising

Our next big purchase is a European boat. This boat will be used all spring and summer in Europe, then shipped home to replace our well loved boat in the US. This boat will cost $36,000 USD.

Donations of more than $500 are tax deductible. Please reach out if you have any questions!
