2022 End of Summer Update

Successful Newport Training

Scott and Charlie had two productive training months in Newport, RI. During these two months, the goal was to work on our starting and boat handling skills.

Our hard work paid off, with the first race of the World Championship a test of survival in extremely windy and wavy conditions. Only 8 boats finished the race without capsizing. We finished the race seconds behind the two time Olympic Bronze Medalists (Rio 2016, Tokyo 2021). Just finishing the race is a testament to the hard work put in Newport!

First World Championship Done!

Scott and Charlie just finished our first 49er World Championship in Hubbards, NS, Canada. We arrived to Canada early, about 20 days before the start of the regatta, to maximize time training with the top European teams and to get to know the venue. The main goal of the regatta was to identify what skills we need to be in the top in future regattas.

Worlds was a great learning experience. We were supported by the best coaches in the world and raced against the best sailors in the world. We learned that we need to work on overpowered upwind boat speed.

What is Next?

In September, Scott and Charlie will be racing in the Oakcliff Triple Crown series, where up to $30,000 of prize money is up for grabs.

After, we have been invited to train with the US Sailing Team in Miami in October.
